Photos:- President Goodluck Jonathan Holds Secret Meeting With Atiku
President Jonathan supposedly visited
Atiku on Friday, March 13, to
convince him to be part of an Interim
National Government.
P resident Goodluck Jonathan has
reportedly held a secret meeting with
Vice President, Abubakar Atiku at the
latter’s home in Abuja.
Jonathan supposedly visited Atiku on
Friday, March 13, to convince him to
be part of an Interim National
Government (ING), according to
Sahara Reporters.
The meeting was said to have held in
Atiku’s living room and continued
into the early hours of the next day.
When reached by Sahara Reporters
however, the former VP denied that
Jonathan had discussed the issue of
the interim government saying
instead that the President attempted to
persuade him to rejoin the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP).
Atiku however stated that he
completely refused Jonathan’s
invitation.
The former VP also reportedly told
Sahara Reporters that the President
didn’t seem eager to allow the general
elections hold on March 28 as
scheduled.
Atiku also maintained that he had no
interest in being part of an Interim
National Government.
APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu
had also earlier alleged that
President Jonathan offered him a
position in the proposed ING, a claim
which former Ekiti State Governor,
Kayode Fayemi says he can provide
evidence to prove.

I Consulted Pastor Adeboye Before Accepting To Be Buhari’s Running Mate- Osinbajo Opens Up
APC’s Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate, Yemi Osinbajo who
also doubles as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church Of
God , has said he consulted the General Overseer of the church,
Pastor E.A Adeboye, before embarking on this journey, Mr
Osinbajo who spoke to Kayode Falade said.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God, where you are a
pastor, has come out to say it never endorsed you…
I don’t think the church has ever said any such thing. Also, the
church does not endorse candidates. The General Overseer of the
church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has not said any such thing.
He has not issued any statement. In any event, the RCCG as a
church cannot endorse a candidate. How can a church endorse
a candidate ?
But did you seek Pastor Adeboye’s consent before accepting the
nomination?
I serve under the GO of the RCCG as a pastor. If I am going to take
any kind of action, especially an action that involves public service,
it is my duty to consult with him. It would be absolutely
irresponsible of me not to consult with him. And I have consulted
with him.
I have consulted with Adeboye fully. I am not prepared to share
with you the details of our discussion.
But be absolutely certain that I would not take these steps without
properly consulting with him and that I did what was needful.
120 Lives Lost In Christmas Crashes – FRSC
No fewer than 120 persons were killed in road crashes across the
country between December 19-28, 2014, the Federal Road Safety
Corps has said.
The figure, according to the corps translates to 42 percent reduction

The Corps Public Education Officer, Imoh Etuk, said this in a
statement on the FRSC yuletide patrol,on Monday in Abuja.

The corps said it also recorded 48 percent reduction in the number
of road traffic crashes within the period, which stood at 193, in

children.

comprise 62 fatal, 115 serious and 15 minor reported cases while
the 2013 figure of 368 comprise of 113 fatal, 225 serious and 30

while one Abubakar Mohammed was sent to jail by Chief
Magistrate Bello Gelangu at Kaltungo in Gombe State for refusing to

63 escape death as plane crash lands in Ilorin
59 passengers and four crew members aboard an Overland Airlines plane
escaped death, yesterday, in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, when the jet crash
landed.
The aircraft, with registration number, 051175/1176, was said to be on its way
to Ibadan when it developed fault.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that no casualty was recorded in the incident that
happened around 5.30pm at the Ilorin International Airport.
Some passengers on board the aircraft commended the pilot who they
claimed averted what they believed could have been a fatal accident.
One of the passengers,Mr Samuel Ajala, however, complained about the
lackadaisical attitude of the staff of the airline to their plight as they were said
to have been left unattended to after the incident.
I believe in the leadership of Aremo Olusegun Osoba – Bukky Wright
Last week, Potpourri served you
brewing hot comments and
mission statements from
entertainers who are suspending
the make-believe world to join
the jostling world of politics.
But one important name was
missing from the list and that
name is none other than Bukky
Wright, a woman many described
as the shining light of Yoruba movies.
It was not an intentional omission but one that was circumstantial because at
press time last week the beautiful thespian was yet to make her intent public.
Now that Bukky has joined the 2015 race there has been a bit of a buzz in and
around Nollywood.
Every actor in both Yoruba and English sectors are trending her poster on
social media as if they were expecting a tsunami of sort.
But Potpourri’s question is; why would a woman who has everything going for
her dabble into the untamed waters of politics?
“My most cogent reason is the marginalization of women in Ogun politics. The
governor and deputy are men, the three senators are men, and the nine
House of Representative members are men as well.
It is a big slap on the faces of all women as it negates the United Nations 30%
affirmative action and inclusion of all women in politics. My people have called
me and the voice of the people is the voice of God, so it is important that I
yield to their call”, she answered.
Adding: “Secondly is to participate in the law-making process to attain peace
and security or peaceful coexistence and good governance.
For equal and effective representation for my people in my constituency not to
be marginalised at the federal level and claim the constituency right for them
at the federal level by being their voice.
Thirdly, is to engage in checkmating the activities of the executives through
the MDAs (Ministries, Departments and Agencies) for the purpose of ensuring
transparency and accountability.
Unlike most of her colleagues Bukky is not trying out her luck on popular
platforms like APC or PDP, she’s putting all her hopes on Social Democratic
Party, SDP, a new party initiated by former Governor Olusegun Osoba, after
decamping from APC.
“ I chose SDP to pursue my political aspirations because I believe in the
leadership of Aremo Olusegun Osoba. It’s the leadership of the people for the
people. Judging from his track record, Akinrogun is a man of his words, an
elder that feels the pain of both the old and young people of Ogun state and
he’s also a man of equality and democracy” she quipped
December’s decisive decisions
The nation enters into the last month of the year with a number of crucial
political decisions set to be taken that could well underline the future direction
of the country.
Central to the political decisions to be taken in the month is the decision on the
line up of candidates of the two major political parties who are expected to
battle for supremacy in the coming elections that will define the future
direction of the country in the immediate and perhaps long term. The election
is due next February but the candidates would have to emerge this month
under the provisions of the electoral act.
Besides that, the ensuing face off between President Goodluck Jonathan and
his adversaries in the National Assembly could come to a head in December
when the legislators weigh the option of serving the president an impeachment
notice or not.
Political intrigues
The schedule of primaries to select candidates for the election due next
February was itself laced in deep political intrigues. After initially fixing its
primary schedules to commence in mid November with the key gubernatorial
primaries initially fixed for November 15, All Progressives Congress, APC
strategists moved it to fall behind that of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP
which had fixed its own gubernatorial primaries for November 29.
After a closed door meeting of the national caucus sometime in early
November, APC rescheduled its primaries for December 4th. The decision was
to allow the party lure those who fail to make it in the PDP to move over to the
APC to try their luck and by that, dismember the PDP. Indeed, the APC had
earlier amended its constitution to remove restriction on new members
contesting in the party’s primaries at any level.
The PDP was quick to react to the plot of the APC as it also immediately
adjusted its own primary schedule and put its governorship and National
Assembly primaries after the newly publicised dates set by the opposition
party.
The rest of this month is however, laced with much activities for the political
gladiators.
December 2: APC holds primaries for House of Assembly aspirants. It is
expected that a number of aspirants who lost out in the PDP last Saturday
would seize the opportunity of trying their luck in the APC. However, the
bandwagon effect of such defections would not have significant effect on a
national scale.
December 3: House of Representatives resumes plenary session with the
sceptre of an impeachment notice against the president arising from the police
invasion of the National Assembly still an issue.
December 4: APC holds governorship primaries across the country. By the
decision of the PDP to put its own primaries after that of the APC, the ruling
party has almost successfully tied the hands of those who could lose out in
the party. Some like Umana Umana in Akwa Ibom on the release of the
revised schedule immediately jumped ship knowing the PDP had closed the
door against rebellion. The only opportunity open to dissidents who lose out in
the PDP is to work against the party in the main election but such dissidents
would think twice.
December 6: PDP House of Representatives primaries.
December 7: APC House of Representatives primaries. Holding the APC House
of Representatives primaries a day after that of the PDP was primed to enable
the many dissidents in the House to switch camp if they fail to get the PDP
tickets.
Internal disharmony
However, it is a double edged sword for the APC as party stalwarts who had
been eyeing the party’s ticket could cause internal disharmony if it is
perceived that the party hierarchy is unjustly dishing out tickets to defectors
from the PDP.
December 7: PDP Senate primaries.
December 8: APC Senate primaries. The same permutation on PDP dissidents
in the House jumping ship could also apply in this case.
December 8: PDP holds its governorship primaries.
December 10: APC presidential primaries/national convention. How the four
contenders and party leaders take the decision on who emerges as
presidential nominee of the opposition party would be a major factor in the
election. If they come out united, the ruling PDP could be in for a strong fight
in the days ahead.
December 11: PDP nomination convention ends with the expected adoption of
President Jonathan as party candidate.
The two presidential candidates that emerge from the national conventions of
the two major political parties would also be expected to nominate their
running mates if not on the convention ground, then shortly after.
Other major decisions of December
The president is yet to present the 2015 budget proposals to the National
Assembly. Eyes would be watching out to see whether the president would
present the proposals himself or delegate someone else as he did last year
following apprehensions of a plot by some members of the National Assembly
to hound him.

He said, “The kids were coming back from school when the rough
edge of the Pepsi truck hooked the boy’s shirt.
“There was traffic on the road, so the driver of the truck did not
know what had happened. He drove forward without knowing the
boy had fallen on the ground and his head close to the tyre.
“The truck broke the boy’s skull. It was such a gory sight that
people had to quickly cover the dead body with cardboards.”
Our correspondent learnt that policemen attached to the Igbogbo
division arrived at the scene and arrested the driver of the truck.
The truck was also taken into the station, which was not far from
the scene of the incident.
When PUNCH Metro visited the residence of the boy’s parents on
Gbadamoshi Street in the Itupate community, he met the victim’s
parents with a group of sympathisers.
Toheeb’s mother, Taiwo, was observing her prayers when our
correspondent entered the house.
She later explained that her son, who was in primary five, died due
to the careless attitude of the school driver.
She said, “That day, he went to centre, where they usually teach
them technical skills. The place is at Itaelewa.
“The usual thing was that the driver that the school employed
would carry them from the centre back to the school, from where
they would find their way back to their parents’ home.
“That day, there was no teacher with them in the bus. The driver
then decided to drop them on the main road and asked them to
trek into the school compound which was a few kilometres away.”
The victim’s father, Salami, while fighting back tears, said he had
resolved with his wife not to seek redress in court.
He lamented that the firm, which owned the truck, had yet to pay
them a condolence visit.
“My boy was a very intelligent boy, as well as a devoted muslim. He
was my second child.
“I was at work on the Lagos Island when I received the news.
When I visited the police station, I was told the truck driver was in
the cell. But let them release him, we have taken this as our fate,”
he added.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Toheeb was formerly attending a private
school in the area, but his parents withdrew him two months ago
and enrolled him in a public school.
It was learnt that the reason was to ease his admission into a
government secondary school.
An official of the SevenUp Bottling Company Plc, bottler of Pepsi,
who declined identification, denied the allegation that the company
did not show any concern.
“The company was fully involved in the boy’s burial. They are
Muslims and the boy had to be buried immediately. We foot the
bill 100 per cent.
“About N100,000 was paid for the burial and we also paid them a
visit yesterday (Saturday), barely a week after the incident
happened. The truck, as I speak with you, is still in the custody of
the police,” he said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the
incident.
He said, “I can confirm to you that one Toheeb Abdullahi, aged 10
years, was crushed to death by a truck. Investigations are already
ongoing into the matter.”
